3D Monochrome plastic Material: mixed media resin, acrylic on mdf canvas
d 100 cm
Made 2023
Artist: Nikyoto
"Shibumi" is a resin
round sculpture infused
with acrylic, showcasing
a harmonious blend of
fluid lines and vibrant
hues. This piece of art
embodies a sense of
elegance, drawing
inspiration from the
Japanese aesthetic
philosophy of
"Shibumi," which emphasises simplicity, subtle beauty, and tranquility. The fluidity of the resin and the dynamic interplay of acrylic colours create a mesmerising visual experience, inviting viewers to appreciate the art of balance and grace encapsulated in this sculpture.
“I chose this plastic because the round shapes of the 3D effect carry the idea of unity and integrity, of the union of all of us in one community. The circle can also be associated with the divine, which has no beginning and no end.
Art brings the idea of harmony into the spiritual life through the free, organic forms of the circle.
Geometric motifs in the circular design, which are common in the Orthodox iconostasis - geometric ornaments and gold fragments, resemble iconography” - Nikyoto
